I have a Samsung 40' LCD 530 Series TV (website & manual download link: ) and a Samsung HT-C350 Home Cinema system (website & manual download link: ). The TV's digital optical audio output is connected to the Home Cinema system's optical input thru a Toslink (optical audio) cable. The home theater's HDMI output is connected to the TV's HDMI input. The devices are connected thru Anynet (CEC).

In the TV's Sound Menu->Speaker Select option, this is set to 'External Speaker'. I would like to ask why I can't enable Dolby Digital in the TV's Sound Menu-> SPDIF Output -> Audio Format -> PCM / Dolby Digital (the Dolby Digital option is disabled/grayed-out, only PCM is selectable). Is it because the Home Cinema system does not support Dolby Digital? Also, what are the differences between PCM & Dolby Digital, and which should be enabled for higher quality 5.1 surround sound? I also would like to ask: If I play a.AVI or.MP4 video in the TV (not thru the Home Cinema system's USB) with AC3-encoded surround sound thru USB (the TV supports playing videos with the AC3 audio codec thru USB), will I properly hear the correct 5.1 surround sounds with the Home Cinema system?
