I'm editing a weekly community television program on Edius 7 Pro and FTP the AVI-DV file for the station to download and air it. I shoot in mini-DV SD.

(Canon GL2, and capture via Firewire) The station plays back the file from Premiere Pro 1.5. They drop the DV-AVI file on Premiere Timeline and play it in real-time from there. The station broadcasts in Standard Definition NTSC on cable-TV and satellite. I'm exporting the program from Edius 7 Pro in DV-AVI SD, 48 kHz Audio, using the MSAVI DV codec.

ISSUE: The issue is that I'm being told that the file needs to be re-rendered in Premiere Pro 1.5 to playback from the timeline! I rather avoid to have the station to re-render the file because it not only takes time but it also lowers the quality due to re-compression. I've been told that a RED render bar appears on Premiere Pro 1.5 timeline when they drop my avi file. QUESTION: I know that Premiere can play certain types of video files in real-time without re-compression. What settings I should use in Edius 7 in order for Premiere Pro 1.5 to be able to play the DV file directly from the timeline in real-time without re-rendering it? This is a screenshot of my export settings in Edius (I really don't know what else to do.

Thank you in advance. It is really simple ask the TV station what plays realtime on their system exact 'specs' and export accordingly. This will be faster then playing Russian roulette with file formats.

This is a quote, unquote: ===== I'm the editor at Odyssey tv and I was wondering if you could try exporting with your avi's with these specs. Format:.avi CODEC: DV/DVCpro - NTSC (0.9) fps = 29.97 I'm having to render the file which takes an extra 25 to 20 minutes lets give it a try until and see if we can perfect it.

I render it in premiere because when I import I have a red bar on the top of the sequence. The problem was from the beginning so audio is not an issue. ====== Also I could be me but I find the export settings a bit strange for TV Station delivery.

Are those formatted by their technical guide lines? I also had some other telephone exchanges, but everything comes down to: 'export to DV/DVCPro, 0.9, 29.97'. That's how I export! The anamorphic part is because I shoot and edit in 16:9. Since the transmission is 4:3 SD NTSC and considering the fact that everybody has widescreen TV at home (or at least 95% of the population) I export in 4:3 Anamorphic Widescreen. (TVs at home stretch the picture to the correct aspect ratio). But that's not the issue, I believe.

Nor the audio 1-channel mono. TV station is getting 0.9 pixel size. What do you find strange? Perhaps that's the issue.

Thanks for any suggestions. Ask them to send you small sample, than post both here: yours and theirs. Thanks for the idea. This is the sample they sent me ((plays directly from their Premiere Pro 1.5 timeline with no issues) and This is a sample of what I output from Edius 7 ((needs rendering in PP1.5) PS. Yes, they are using old SD hardware.

That's all I know. Community stations don't always have the budget of major networks.

My copy of Edius 7 reports the file as being DVCPro not DV. Would that be the issue? They may be set up for Panasonic not Sony.

Close but not the same. I know that for a fact their VTRs are Panasonic DVCPro (conventional 25-Mbps). And as you saw, they asked me to output DVCPro. How can I output DVCPro file format from Edius 7? Is it possible?

I don't see any option for DVCPro. I thought that in NTSC, DV, DVCAM and DVCpro are exactly the same codec, and that the only difference is how a hardware tape mechanism handles it. But for a file output it doesn't matter. I could be wrong.

I downloaded both sample clips and the EDIUS one is seen as MSDV by my programs and plays in Premiere Pro CC 2014 with no red line on a DV timeline. I also use a program called DV Date to change the codec on DV files and that reports your clip as MSDV as well. The problem could be that Premiere 1.5 will flag anything as RED that does not match the timeline settings and MSDV is not DVCPro25. Neither is DVC Pro 50. I can export a DVCPro25 file from EDIUS using the P2 exporter but it makes MXF files which they may not be able to accept. The other possibility is what kind of device are they using to playback from Premiere to air?
