I've searched the boards and found a few good posts about performing a saveas function that increments the file name, but all posts show you how to save in the native directory and not in a separate directory. Windows file name convention 1) Open workbook located in 'G: Original thisexcelfile.xls' 2) The workbook has links, so updatelinks:=false 3) Save the file in a different directory 'G: New.' Here's what I need. 4) Create a loop to save file with incremented numeral at the end 'G: New thisexcelfile1.xls' The next filename will be 'thisexcelfile2.xls' Honestly, the workbook doesn't even need to open, I just want to create a backup copy of the workbook first in case my macro does something weird to it, we can restore the file using a backup stored in another directory.
