It wen't into things that the original didn't ( Like Willy Wonka finding the Ompa Lumpas ), but Willy Wonkas character wasn't done really well, they should've taken a different approach on the classic and much beloved Character, instead of Burtonize it. The music by Danny Elfman is fantastic, one of the better qualities of the movie.

So all in all, I don't think it's as bad as everyone says it is.
